With 4 no-shows and pretty much the whole of Match Lake frozen over it was decided to switch the match to the relatively ice-free top bank of Spring Lake and ....... nobody caught a bleedin thing!
Fortunately a few anglers reported having the odd bite and Steve Burgess lead the way with his float dipping twice on his first put-in and not long after missing a "proper" bite which completely took his maggot hookbait! He managed a third bite later on in the afternoon when he dropped his rig in and the float carried on going under but that may have been down to excess ice formation on his pole float.
Ade Crawley had his pinky chewed (which was nice for him) while Paul Elmes had several good knocks on his feeder rig in between tangles with an overhanging tree.
Derek Lucas had one definite bite on his tip rod but by then was frozen to his platform and unable to pick the rod up while Darren North also reported indications on his rod tip but they may have been liners from floating pack ice!
All was not completely lost however, as after the all-out Alan Healy dropped his pole rig into the River Cary behind him and bagged up with a pair of 2oz roach and Paul Elmes adopted a similar tactic (with Ade Crawley's pole) and landed a roach of about 8oz.
Paul Elmes with the best fish of the day and the biggest fish Ade Crawley's pole has seen all season.
Alan with half of the Healy family's fish supper.

Bullocks Farm, Match Lake, 14 November (10 pegs)
Expectations for this match weren't too great and it was expected to be hard going with the water being gin clear and the carp not expected to show in great numbers. Alan Healy though, having spent the previous week living on rabbits and roadkill was eager to get back to winning ways and restock his diminishing pound coin collection and so used psychic powers and various other means to pull out peg 17 from the bag (which won the Avon Angling open for Paul Elmes last weekend)
Having successfully drawn the only good peg on the lake Alan predictably went on to win both the match and the silvers weighing in a total of 21-1 all caught on maggot.
Also fishing maggot on peg 1 was Mike Smith who's two carp weighed in at 20-11 to take second place followed by Steve Burgess on peg 9 with 11-13 of crucians, fantails and 2 small tench caught on maggot and soft pellet.
Following the sad demise of his stud guinea pig (and main source of income) this match saw a welcome return to the fold for Mark Britton but unfortunately playing with rodents has meant Mark's fishing has gone a bit rusty and he could only manage a lowly 4-10. But on the plus side, Mark did manage to fish the whole match without throwing his toys out of the pram and, much to everyone's surprise, was still approachable afterwards!

Westerleigh, Old Lake, 31 October (12 pegs)
More often remembered for his monumental Sunday morning hangovers and string of ex-wives than his match fishing pedigree, Southmead's finest (only) Steel Fixer, Stevie Wynne turned the form book on it's head to produce a comfortable win.
Drawn on peg 13, Steve alternated between corn, meat and maggot at 13m and in the margins ending up with a 53-7 mixed bag which included a 10lb 7oz lump caught on double red maggot.
Surprisingly that now makes it eight matches in a row that Steve has fished without breaking a pole section or having a rod towed onto the lake!
The Southmead fishing bus was a happy place to be on the journey home as Steve's long-term partner and soulmate, Rich Jones, took second spot with 38-14 from peg 4.
Richard fished similar tactics to the winner but had more success with 8mm banded pellet on the hook. Unfortunately he did manage to lose two good sized fish which spent the rest of the day feeding in the safety of Adam Woodland's peg where they were in no danger of being caught!
Third place went to Simon Belcham on peg 19 with 38-2 caught on maggot and meat while Ryan Jordan completed the frame with 36-3 from peg 9 using the same baits in the margins and out at 13m.
Mike Smith was not far behind with 34-1 from peg 18 but lost ground however, due to a couple of spells of goose wrestling while Bob Warren chose to go for a swim after the "all out" to retrieve his new hook. Luckily Bob's wallet is watertight so his Green Shield stamps, pension book and bus pass were all perfectly safe and dry!

Avalon, 24 October (8 pegs)
Drawn on unfancied peg 16, Psv's match secretary, Steve Burgess, had his work cut out from the start, especially when it looked like it was going to be a day spent on the tip (not one of his favourite methods). And things looked even worse after ten minutes on the maggot feeder produced nothing more than a rig trashed in the island undergrowth. However, a switch to corn on the hook produced three carp and a reasonable skimmer in quick succession before the swim died prompting a look on the pole line, fed at the start with groundbait and micros. This only produced one small skimmer and a rogue carp on double red maggot before the micro roach became too much of a problem.
The rest of the match was spent on the straight lead with a hair-rigged 8mm banded pellet and 6mm's pinged over the top, and by casting to different spots around the island another five carp were added resulting in a comfortable win with 54lbs 15oz and yet another pound off Alan Healy.
On the opposite end of the match length (peg 1), Darren North managed a late run to take second place with 23-9 ahead of Mike Smith on peg 3 whose pole and meat tactics produced 18-12 which included a double-figure "lump" and ensured top spot in the Summer League ahead of Alan Healy by just 2 points.
For the rest of the field it was extremely hard going; Docks legend, Ade Crawley could only manage 5lbs 4oz although, for once, this wasn't the lowest weight in the match, that honour fell to ex spitfire pilot Derek Lucas, who weighed in a pathetic 3lbs 9oz!

Trinity, 17 October 2010 (13 pegs)
Due to an unfortunate cock-up with the pegging out
(no doubt as a result of myself being a bit worse for wear),
the Southmead angling superstar that is Rich Jones (looking even more worse for wear than I was) found himself
on peg 5 which was supposed to have been left out due to it being one of the shallowest pegs on the lake and unlikely to produce after the overnight frost.
Not a problem though for Mr Jones, however, as he then went on to win the match although he only fished the second half of the match.
The first half was spent sulking and nursing his hangover and produced only a couple of rudd until, following a wander round the lake to see who was catching, he switched to fishing luncheon meat into the margins which produced a match-winning total of 60lbs 7oz.
It seems as though luncheon meat is fast becoming the "in" bait at psv matches as Bob Warren, fishing with a brand new hook (see the previous post), from peg 22 also used it to take 2nd place with 52-2.
Third spot went to Mike Smith with 48-5, although according to angling guru, Paul Reed, Mike had 100lbs plus after the first hour!
Mike, on peg 15, caught long down both margins and out in front on his usual paste tactics but suffered a lot of lost fish no doubt due to using poofy elastic for big fish in a peg full of snags! (But what do I know)
Interestingly (or not) all of the top 3 places were end pegs.
Fourth place and top in the silvers went to Simon Belcham who switched between 4mm pellet and an hemp & tares approach to put 44-8 on the scales from peg 26 followed up by Steve Burgess and Darren North (pegs 28 & 24 respectively) who both weighed in 40-4 although it has to be noted that Darren's 1lb silvers weight was made up of three roach of which the biggest one was no more than 3oz!!!
Way down the list in 8th was last week's winner Alan Healy who was back to his more usual form and leaking pound coins like an old tap.
Result:
Average Weight = 29lbs

Rood Ashton, 10 Oct 2010 (13 pegs)
Rabbit stew and pigeon pie were off the menu tonight at the Healy household seeing as an unexpected win on the golden peg meant that the Knowle West pheasant beater was better off to the tune of £150 plus several £1 side bets to replenish the coin pile that had been rapidly disappearing over recent weeks.
Fishing paste and pellet at 13m and down the edge from peg 9 Alan weighed in 68lbs 8oz which was exactly 6lbs ahead of Bob Warren on peg 6.
Bob fished luncheon meat at 13m out into open water and could have won had he not lost a good fish when his hook knot gave up the ghost. Not only did it cost him £10 in the payout but it also meant that Bob would have to go out and buy himself a new hook to replace the one he lost and which had served him well for the last fifteen years!
Another surprise result saw Paul Reed finally take advantage of a peg stuffed with fish to grab 3rd place with 41-14 ahead of Darren North on the end peg flier who somehow managed not to win the match and settled for 4th place with just 40lbs.
Alan's win takes him to the top of the Summer League, ahead of Chris Szakacs and Mike Smith, and just 5 points behind Chris in the Year Totals. It also means that he has now won 3 out of the last 4 matches at Rood Ashton which goes to show just how well he can draw!

There was a slight controversy at this one as the match ran over by 15 minutes because, due to the inclement weather, the official timekeeping phone was in my box and I never thought to check it.
Rumour has it that I caught my last fish during the period of "extra time" and as a result, robbed Alan of a(nother) pound ...... oh well, shit happens as they say!

Sedges, 26 September (11 pegs)
A great result for one of the club's newest members and current owner of the Psv Cleanest Kit award, Stuart Ashton.
Drawn on peg 12 Stuart started off on the pellet waggler without success before switching to a waggler with double red maggot fished on the deck(ish) at 20m.
He caught steadily throughout the match to record his first win with 27lbs of mostly skimmers and amazingly, no carp!
Across on the opposite bank, Match Secretary Steve Burgess on peg 6 started on the pole at 11m but when he spotted his neighbour and venue expert, Darren North catch a carp on the pellet wag, switched to the same to take 3 decent carp and a solitary 9oz skimmer for 23lbs 9oz and a well-deserved second place.
Darren, on peg 8, also managed to snare three carp to take the third spot with 20lbs 1oz while Paul (should have won) Reed took 4th with 2 carp for 18-11 from corner peg 20 (the peg with the wind blowing into it that was solid with fish)!
Overall Result:

Viaduct, Campbell, 19 September (10 pegs)
Just in case anyone isn't acquainted with the Viaduct rules, here is a short reminder ......
...... which means that the little shiny fish and the slimy flat ones (silvers) go in one net and the big fat greedy ones (carp) go in another net, then when you have 80lbs of fat greedy ones (carp) you need to put another net in.
As a rule of thumb, if you have 11 fish averaging 7lbs then you need to put another net in.
And if you don't have enough nets with you, have a word with Derek or Paul Reed as they usually have a couple of spare ones!
Overall Result:
Silvers:
Total Match Weight = 627lbs
Average weight = 62lbs

With only nine booked in for this one everyone was guaranteed plenty of room and with only the form pegs in the draw bag a few fish were expected to come out.
Although, according to the grapevine, the fish were now spread out around the lake and anybody could be in with a shout.
Venue expert, Mike the paste Smith was particularly happy having drawn peg 28 seeing as it had recently broken the Dabinett match record on two occasions but Paul Elmes, on peg 7, was having none of it.
Fishing pellet and paste in open water and later pellet long across to the point of the island, Paul took a steady procession of fish from start to finish to weigh in a total of 101lbs 9oz.
Close on his heels, on peg 21, Paul's doubles partner, match secretary Steve Burgess started by fishing pellet shallow in open water at 13m with little success before changing to corn over pellet to the end of the reeds where he found the fish to be feeding confidently and cruised into second place with 91-15
Result:
Total Match Weight = 503lbs 8oz
Average weight = 63lbs

Landsend, Speci Lake, 5 September (15 pegs)
With 15 booked into the 16 peg specimen lake at Landsend it was expected to be tough going and for many that was the case. Not so however, for Darren North (Mr Consistent) whose golden draw hand managed to pull out peg 25 which was the only peg on the lake with an empty peg next door.
Darren fished pellet shallow into open water easily winning the match with 80-1.
Second in the running was Psv's paste maestro, Mark Radford with 67-10 taken unsurprisingly on paste at 16m from peg 38 followed by Mark's son Ryan on peg 40 with 49-10.
Chris Szakacs completed the frame from peg 33 with 43-10.
The silvers, as normal, was in the safe hands of Bob (The Bream) Warren with 14-8 of mostly skimmers taken on a variety of baits from peg 32.
Bob swears blind that he doesn't target silvers intentionally but having had a sneak peak at his bait tray I have my suspicions .... soaked micro-pellet ???
A rare appearance from Psv's club chairman and self-made millionaire, Mike Wilson resulted in this double-figure chub!
Overall Result:
Total Match Weight = 470 lbs 7oz

Avalon, 22 August (16 pegs)
A cracking draw, corner peg 23, spelt good news for pastehead Mike Smith, who needed cheering up after spending the whole of the previous day moving house. On the downside though, nearly 115lbs of fish wasn't going to do his knackered back much good!
Mike fished his now standard line of attack (paste at 13m) and finished up with 104-2 of carp and also the top silvers weight of 10-12.
Not far behind was Rich Jones on peg 13 with 102-2. Rich (pictured top right looking as cheerful as ever) caught mainly on paste at 14m with a few fish taken on the straight lead / pellet combination fished to the island margins.
Third place went to Ryan Jordan who was keen to make up for a disastrous performance at last Sunday's Avalon open where he fished like a twat and got absolutely battered off the next peg Stu Riddle take note
Ryan, on the golden peg (5) also fished paste at 16m for a total of 91-5.
Just out of the main pools was Paul (Beaver) Elmes with 88-1 from peg 20, however Paul's 5-2 of silvers was enough to secure him 2nd in the silvers money by default.
The Avalon weighing in team's efforts were appreciated as always, even if their adding up wasn't that special for some reason nobody seemed to mind too much!
Pictured below, Stu Riddle was forced to wear the PSV "wooden spoon" fat-suit. Normally the property of Paul Reed and Stevie Wynne, but after one of the most dismal displays of match fishing in the history of the club it now has his name well and truly sewn on it.
Overall Result:
** yes, the same Stuart Riddle who in conversation with Chris Szakacs before the start of the match was going to "whoop some PSV ass"!

Changes to the Match Calender
The match scheduled for John's Lake at Landsend (5 September) has been changed to the Specimen Lake as the members at the last meeting decided they would prefer to fish a match on a lake with fish in it!
Also, November 14 at Cider Farm has been cancelled however, I am hoping to fill the gap with a match at either Boyd or possibly Westerleigh so you can hone your skills in time for the Christmas match!
The Match Calender has been updated and a copy can be downloaded here.

Trinity, Woodlands Lake, 15 August (13 pegs)
Trinity venue expert Darren North made it his second win on the trot on the in-form Woodlands Lake. In fact, Darren was so confident of a win that he even put three nets in before the match had even started!
Fishing from peg 16 Darren alternated between fishing 6mm pellet shallow at 11m out into open water in front of him and the same bait down his left hand margin taking fish steadily through the match and despite a relatively quiet last hour managed to weigh in a total of 104lbs 14oz which included 17lbs of silvers.
It was by no means an easy victory though as it turned out to be the closest frame of the season so far with only 2lbs separating the top 3 positions!
Right up Darren's arse (figuratively speaking)
and cementing his place at the top of the league leaderboard was Chris always in the frame Szakacs with 103lbs 8oz.
Fishing from corner peg 18, Chris fished paste to an overhanging bush and down his right hand margin.
Unfortunately, Chris was plagued by a frustrating succession of foul-hookers, any of which could have easily won him the match and was probably a result of fishing the last two hours of the match with his hat off!
Meanwhile Alan Healy, in bottom corner peg 5, despite moaning about his crap peg at the start, fished similar methods to Chris and somehow managed to weigh in 102-11 from a peg with "no water in it".
Funnily enough, Alan wasn't moaning at the end of the match when he was collecting his pound coins.
In fourth place, and another corner peg (22) was Mark Radford who after a completely crap year is finally returning to form and finding some decent draws (thanks to his boy Ryan who draws for him). Mark fished similar methods to Chris and Alan for 90-3.
Top silvers not surprisingly went to "silvers maestro" Bob Warren with 18-15 from peg 8.
Overall Result:
Total match weight = 804lbs 15oz
Average weight = 67lbs

Viaduct, Campbell, 08 August (16 pegs)
Hundreds of hours of practice throughout the year on Campbell for dynamic duo, Rich Jones and Stevie Wynne, finally paid off today in style with Rich taking top honours and Steve close behind him in third place.
With a good draw, peg 116, Rich started off fishing a paste-wrapped pellet on the tip before switching to the pole with paste at 13m into open water and down his right margin to finish the match with 157lbs 6oz and a clear win.
Trailing Rich by over 35lbs was in-form badger baiter and rabbit skinner, Alan Healy, with a paste caught 121-14 from peg 127.
A rare visitor to the frame, in third place, Stevie Wynne decided to avoid breaking his new Map TKS pole and chose to fish the pellet wag from peg 110. But even so, he still managed to break his landing net handle on the way to his 120-6 total!
Fourth place went to Simon Belcham on Campbell's hottest peg (132) with 114-8.
Simon chose to target the silvers fishing luncheon meat at 6m and later paste but found carp instead although he still managed second in the silvers pool with 22-10.
First place in the silvers was taken care of by Psv's resident silvers maestro, Bob Warren, with 34-15 from peg 126.
Overall Result:
Total match weight = 1338lbs 14oz
Average weight = 83lbs

Rood Ashton, 01 August (20 pegs)
Although the match was unusually hard going for many, Knowle West's very own "Johnny Kingdom", Alan Healy made no mistakes when he drew the end peg flier, peg 20 from the bag. Fishing paste firstly in open water and then down his left margin he caught carp steadily all day for a total of 132lbs 2oz.
Almost 40lbs behind, in second place, was Neil Mercer who despite suffering an early ear-bashing over the phone from a rather unhappy wife (no surprise seeing as he had spent the previous night trawling Bristol's lap-dancing establishments until the early hours!), still managed to net 94lbs 6oz.
Fishing from the opposite bank on peg 4 Neil (pictured right) caught all his fish on 6mm soft pellet at 13m.
Never out of the frame, Chris Szakacs took third spot with 82lbs 9oz from peg 18 fishing pellet on the method feeder and later paste on the pole line.
Last in the money and only 8oz behind Chris was party animal Craig Trigger Edmunds with 82lbs 1oz from peg 15.
Section winners (by default) were Mike Smith with 39-6 from peg 3 and Mark Radford with 67-0 from peg 19.

Sedges, Tile Lake, 11 July (15 pegs)
Posting his first match win upcoming Psv superstar, 15 year old Ryan Radford, put the rest of the field to shame and even managed to more than double Dad Mark's weight off the next peg. Fishing across into the margin of corner peg 21 Ryan caught steadily throughout the day to weigh in 70lbs 2oz which was a clear 10lbs in front of second placed Stuart Riddle.
Stuart, fishing the opposite corner to Ryan (peg 40), suffered a slow start but with a warm strong breeze blowing into his peg the carp later moved in allowing him to take second spot with 60lbs 11oz.
Third placed Bob Warren had an excellent day's fishing on peg 24 where he managed to put together 44lbs of skimmers plus odd carp for a total of 55lbs 6oz. Bob fished paste at short range over groundbait.
On the next peg to Bob, Alan Healy had to suffer the disgrace of a complete battering from all sides and could only top up his tan and watch pound coins disappear from his pocket as he could only manage 12lbs 5oz and last place!

Sedges, Brick Lake, 25 May (14 pegs)
Apologies for the late update but have had a few difficulties at "hq" last week but (hopefully) that's all sorted now and we're back in business.
Sedges at the weekend was a difficult affair with an awkward wind blowing across and down the lake. Taking full advantage of a cracking draw, peg 20 (the peg that Yan wanted out of the draw as he reckoned there weren't any fish in it!) with the wind blowing into the corner, Chris Szakacs fished banded pellet into the margins to take top spot with 45lbs 14oz, just one fish ahead of league leader Adam Caswell who foul-hooked 42-9 from peg 8.
Third place went to "the gimp with the limp" (Simon Belcham) with 36-12 from peg 12.
Meanwhile, on peg 5, match secretary Steve Burgess produced a stunning display of skimmer bashing to take the top silvers spot (and fourth place) with 25-9 of fish to around 2.5 lbs plus a stray 9lb carp caught on the pellet wag (the only wag caught fish of the day)!
Steve caught steadily through the match, fishing 6mm soft pellet at 5m over wetted micros mixed with green swimstim.
Fifth place (one out of the money again) was Bob Warren on peg 19 with 36-12.
Ironically for Bob he would have picked up money on the day had it not been for pre-match interference which led to paying out two silvers places instead of the more usual top four and one silver pool!
By way of compensation though, Bob was fortunate enough to be able to cuddle up to The Reedinator on the way home, a position normally reserved for Paul Reed's two alsations!
Overall Result:

Viaduct, Campbell, 23 May (21 pegs) & Knockout Results
Following on from the return to winter over the past month or so the sun finally shone and the carp decided to "get it on" ...... which didn't stop Trigger from smashing Alan Healy's club record by 46lbs with 270lbs 12oz from peg 124!
It wasn't so long back that a ton was unheard of in a club match so it just goes to show how the fish have grown (the anglers are still crap!)
Trigger caught by donning Paul Elmes' polaroids and mugging cruisers at 16m with a long line.
Second place went to Neil Mercer, nearly a ton behind, but with a still impressive 178-4 from 112 using the same method as Trigger but with his own polaroids!!
Mr Consistent took the third spot from 135 with 109-7 and Chris Szackacs managed to avoid the silvers on peg 123 and take 4th with 82-9.
Top silvers went to Bob (the tench) Warren with 21-10 from 119 (next time I draw that peg I know how to fish it ...... cheers Chris!) and the second silvers place went to Paul (beaver) Elmes with 8-11.
With one match left in the Committee cup, Adam (two-nose) Caswell retains the top position with 128 pts with Alan Healy and Chris Zaks close behind on 123 & 122 pts respectively so the result could be anyone's at Sedges next week.
In the knockout (first round) Adam Caswell, Simon Belcham, Alan Healy, Bob Warren, Paul Elmes, Darren North, Mike Smith, Neil Mercer, Steve Hutch and Ryan Radford all go through to the second round with Derek Lucas, Trigger and Steve Burgess also going through (by default)*
Mark Radford and steady Eddie Wynne drew their match 1-1 but tied on points so will have a "fish-off" at Sedges. Mark will need to pray to the fishing gods for a decent draw as Eddie Wynne is guaranteed one.
The second round of the knockout and first round of the "plate" (losers knockout) will start at Viaduct on June 6th with the draw at the meeting on Tuesday June 1st.
Also at the meeting will be the draw for the pairs which will follow last years format ie: finishing on the match previous to the Christmas match and with a £5 entry fee.
* Their respective knockout partners didn't fish any of the three qualifying matches.
Overall Result:
Average weight = 64lbs

Cider Farm, 16 May 2010 (19 pegs)
As expected on Cider Farm's Dabinett lake the top three places were taken by the usual form pegs on the gap between the islands. Venue regular Mike Smith took the top honours and his first win since joining the club this season with 73lbs 5oz from peg 6 all caught on paste.
Second place went to Mark Radford on neighbouring peg 7 with 68-3, again all taken on paste. It seems as though Mark has finally shaken off his run of crap draws and returned to form having framed twice in two matches.
In third place, despite drawing the hottest peg on the lake, peg 21, was "rock steady" Eddie Wynne with 57-5 caught on pellet. It's rumoured that since Eddie started match fishing (many years ago) he has never drawn a bad peg!
With the lake split into two sections, 1 to 14 and 16 to 28, another "paste-head", Chris Szakacs took the first section from peg 3 with 41-4. With nobody on peg 2 Chris was gifted another empty peg next to him when Alan Healy thought he had drawn peg 4 but in actual fact had drawn 14. Alan practically skipped up the lake to peg 14 but only managed to weigh in 10-12 so in hindsight he probably wished he'd stayed put on 4 and saved himself a few pound coins!!
The second section went to Adam Caswell on peg 22 where, despite losing a shedload of fish in the infamous Cider Farm reeds, he still managed to foul hook 33-8 and put himself at the top of the PSV year totals!
In the knockout Adam Caswell goes through to the second round after beating Ade Crawley in 2 out of the 3 legs of the first round as does club junior member, Ryan Radford after beating Steve Wynne twice.
Adam Woodland and Simon Belcham face a decider at Campbell next week with Simon having a 3 point advantage. And Eddie Wynne and Mark Radford also face off next week with Mark ahead by just 1 point!
Mike Smith goes to Campbell with a 17 point lead over Yan, the flying Dutchman, and Steve Hutchinson and Ryan Jordan also meet again next week with Steve Hutch ahead by 5 points.
One-off battles at Campbell will be between Bob Warren and Paul Reed, Neil Mercer and Rich Jones and also Mike Wilson and Alan Healy

Avalon, 9 May (14 pegs)
New Dad, Ryan Jordan celebrated the birth of daughter Maddie in style winning comfortably with 10lb to spare. Fishing mainly with paste at 16m from peg 17 Ryan weighed in 58lbs 11oz.
This capped off a busy week for Ryan who has had to juggle breast-feeding Maddie through the night whilst delivering parcels during the day to such far-flung places as Oldland Common and Soundwell and in between managing to fit in four practice sessions at Avalon to make sure he made the frame on the match day!
Following up a golden peg win at Landsend last week, the runner up was form man of the moment, Adam (2 nose) Caswell who managed 48-9 from the top corner flier peg 17. Adam fished long down both margins with paste and pellet to record an all-carp weight of 48-9 which was just enough to push his idol, Mark Radford into third.
Mark, a pipe-bender through the week, made a rare appearance in the frame having weighed in 47-6 from peg 3.
Just out of the money by 2lbs was Rich Jones on peg 13 with 45-5.
Rich (below) looks shocked and slightly embarrassed by the ease with which the fish in his peg were happy to snaffle his pellets!
Top silvers went to new member, Ade (creepy) Crawley with 6-4 from peg 21 followed by Adam Woodland, just 2oz off with 6-2 and Steve Burgess with 4-7.
The golden peg remained safe from harm with Derek Lucas who could only manage one fish for a total weight of 3lbs.
Cider Farm next week, if you are fishing please bear in mind that Mark is now insisting that nets should be bone dry before arrival.

2010 Knockout, Format & 1st Round Fixtures
As discussed at the May meeting (yes, there was one) the 1st round of the knockout will be run over three legs (Avalon, Cider Farm & Campbell) with the results being decided by "best out of three".
If a fixture is drawn 1-1 or if neither angler meets at one of the three matches then the result will be decided on total points scored.
Losers from the first round will go into the knockout "plate".
The 2nd round of the main knockout and the "plate" will be fished by the same format over the following 2 matches (Sedges, 30 May and Campbell, 6 June).
After that all fixtures will be fished over 1 match to be arranged to suit everyone involved.
The pairs competition will be drawn at the June meeting and, as last year, will be run up to the match prior to the Christmas match. Cost will be £5 each (winners take all).

Sedges, Brick Lake, 25 April (17 pegs)
Fishing the tip ..... a method enjoyed by numpties and employed in times of desperation in order to avoid a "blank" when all other normal fishing methods have failed to produce.
(see also "fishing the paste")
As always at the much improved Sedges fishery we received a warm welcome from owners Denise and Jamie. With all nets provided and collected from the bank, the weigh-in taken care of and free refreshments before and after matches there's little left to amuse the moaners.
Unfortunately though, the fishing didn't quite match the quality of the reception as the lake appeared to be having an "off" day for some!
The best of the action was to be found at the top of the left hand bank, away from the worst effects of the wind and tow where Simon (disabled when it suits) Belcham on peg 10 fished paste and 4mm pellet at 11m to weigh in 60lbs 13oz and take top spot and a £65 payout.
Next to Simon, in peg 9, and only 4 ounces behind with 60-9 was the ever-consistent Caig Trigger Edmunds.
Trigger fished hard pellet on the deck at between 14 and 16m and also managed one of his better fish on the pellet waggler out towards the centre rope.
Third place went to self-confessed Sedges expert, Darren North on peg 6 with 46-14 followed by Paul Elmes on peg 4 with 36-15.
Paul Reed continued his decent run of form by taking 5th place and the best weight on the right-hand bank with 31-10 from peg 12.The Silvers honours went to Bob Warren with 17-13 of skimmers taken on soft pellet at 12m on peg 2.

Sedges & Curry Night
We currently have 18 down to fish at Sedges this Sunday so I won't be taking any more bookings.
If this remains unchanged I will be leaving out the two end pegs nearest the carp park, pegs 1 and 20 (I think!). Payouts will be top 3 overall of £65, £55 and £40 with the top 2 silvers weights at £45 and £30. The golden peg now stands at £80. Draw at 9am and fishing from 10 till 4.
Keepnets and landing net are supplied at Sedges but fish over 10lb must be weighed, recorded and put back.
I have booked up the Curry Night for the next meeting on Tuesday May 4 at Bollywood Spice (as before). The table is booked for 8:30 for 16 people (to be confirmed) so if you're not booked in for the curry and want to stay on please let me know as soon as possible.
Please note that priority for match places will be for members who book in at the monthly meeting.
See you on Sunday!
